hover the cursor over a row label;

When you create a table in Pages 5.5.2, there are two ways to start. Select the format menu and select tables, or click on the tables icon in the menu bar. The menu bar option is the fastest. Select all table rows. On the Home tab, click the dialog launcher button in the Paragraph group. On the Line and Page Breaks tab, clear the 'Keep with next' and 'Page break before' options. (If the check boxes display as filled, click twice for them to clear completely.).

with a trackpad, a 'hard click' bottom left (and hold that click) will make the selected rows appear to lift off the page;

drag the selection away to create a new table.

This works also with columns and a rectangle of selected cells.
